"Egoísta" magazine celebrates the 50th Aniversary of Estoril Sol

"Egoísta" commemorates Estoril Sol's 50th anniversary in an original way, unique and different way; exploring literary and artistically the vision that each colaborator has on the number 50. And thus, this magazine is filled with icons and memories, fictions by Maria do Rosário Pedreira, Leonor Xavier, José Luís Peixoto, Possidónio Cachapa, Pedro Mexia, João Lopes, João Gobern and Urbano Tavares Rodrigues.

There are also references to Madonna and Prince and others in Jorge Barros' portfolium on Capelinhos. Artists such as Sandra Rocha, Simon Frederick, Augusto Brázio and the most American Portuguese artist Jorge Colombo, fill our immaginary, presenting scenaries and other realities and the number 50 is used as an inspiration and goes beyond the selfish path of criativity.

After a special edition commemorating the 120 years since the birth of Fernando Pessoa, having been a best-sellers in Bertrand, "Egoísta" returns to its original format, with reading proposals that will last for three months. We will return in September, until then, good readings!

"Egoísta" Launches a special edition dedicated to Fernando Pessoa

This special edition pays tribute to Fernando Pessoa, one of the most remarkable Portuguese poets and writers.

This magazine presents tributes by António Tabucchi, Nuno Júdice, Fernando Pinto de amaral, Hélia correia, António Feijó, Inês Pedrosa; by researchers such as Richard Zenith, Teresa Rita Lopes, Jerónimo Pizarro and Patrício Ferrari; and by the photographer Daniel Blaufuks, amongst others.

For the fourth time, "Egoísta" presents a supplement edition within this concept. Two of the previous ones honored the writters Sophia de Mello Breyner and Agustina Bessa-Luís and the third payed tribute to New York, after the tragic events of September 11 2001.

Within the spirit of this edition, an exibition called "Lugares de Pessoa" (Pessoa's Places) will be taking place in Estoril Sol.

March Edition of "Egoísta" dedicated to the Atlantic Ocean

The new edition of "Egoísta"defies the reader to navigate in its pages dedicated to the Atlantic. This prestigious Estoril Sol publication was inspired in the Ocean and in the adventurous spirit, thus sailing the Atlantic Ocean from Portugal to Brazil. With its usual literary quality, "Egoísta" has changed the magazine format and has reserved other surprises.

This edition gathers some first quality Brazilian poets and writters in a unique section where the language approaches us and sets us apart at the same time. True to the Brazilian wirtting, this "Egoísta" presents António Cícero, Eucanaã Ferraz and Lygia Fagundes Telles, amongst others.

This "Egoísta" also presents an extensive rehersal on the Ocean by Ernani Lopes, in which he travels in the Portuguese history in that Ocean, qualifying the economic, political and social importance that the Atlantic represented and still represents for the Portuguese people. The Portuguese collaboratrion in this magazine takes place with unique artistic portfoliums from João Carvalho Pina, Sandra Rocha, Nana Sousa Dias and Pedro Cláudio. A sight over African grounds is also presented by one of the most important names in Angolan literature, with António Tapies' short story called Ondjaki.

"Egoísta - Atlantic" evoques Luíz de Camóes and Fernando Pessoa, in search of the true meaning of the expression: Sailing is needed.

"Egoísta" Magazine with the theme - Luck!

Another edition of "Egoísta" magazine has came out, this time dedicating 154 pages to the subject: Luck; thus presenting a set of fiction works from prestigious authors reinforcing, once again, the Excellency of this publication.

In a theme proposal designed for the end of the year, "Egoísta" rehearsals different points of view on luck or, in some cases, on the absence of bad luck. Portuguese writers such as Inês Pedrosa, Rui Cardoso Martins, Alexandra Carita, João Gobern, José Manuel Mendes e Luís Pedro Cabral and some international collaborators such as Luís Cardoso (from Timor), Luís Ruffalo and Eduardo Coelho (Brazilian) and Alfredo Hervios y Mendizábel (Spanish).

This edition has the strong images of Júlio Pomar, Jason Berger, Helena Gonçalves, Sandra Rocha and Rodrigo Prazeres Saías. Believing in the four leave clover or in the bad luck drawn by a black cat, "Egoísta" suggests different readings and various forms of entertainment.

As property of Estoril Sol, "Egoísta" has been awarded with important prizes that have highlighted its unique graphic and content quality. "Egoísta" has recently been distinguished at a European level, having been awarded with a Bronze Trophey for its latest four editions at Epica Awards (Europe's Premiert Creatica Awards). Also, "Briefing" has awarded its September edition, which theme was sex.

Art takes up the entire body of “Egoísta” in its July issue and associates literary quality with an unusual set of images. The publication by Estoril Sol therefore proposes a stimulating invitation to reading during the summer months.

In an editorial, Mário Assis Ferreira wrote “Art exists, what doesn’t exist is its limit. And this limit is drawn by the artist in the ecstasy of delivery and poses which is called creation”.

He also underlines: “Egoísta is also, Arts destination: because she reveals to you the best of yourself, through a talent which does not belong to you; because she feeds emotions which can only be satisfied in the invasion of everyday life; because she awakes the anxiety of a pose, whose satisfaction excludes sharing”.

A reference in the cultural environment, “Egoísta” opens its 31st edition with a phrase from a five year old child: “the artist is strange. He has many things. And he goes to the moon. I like the artist”.

Beside a text by Bernardo Pinto de Almeida on the winner of the Art Award of Casino da Póvoa, Nikias Skapinakis, Art reveals itself in its most perfect form with a vast fiction by António Mega Ferreira.

With this, the Estoril Sol magazine dedicates an exclusive issue to the unique journey of one of the most important authors in Portuguese language. “Egoísta” brought the writers closest friends together to pay her a tribute after the publication of the Novel “A Ronda da Noite” (Night Patrol), which has been worthy of the best reviews from specialised critics.

Distinguished with various awards for her remarkable career, Agustina Bessa-Luís has been part of the jury of the Fernando Namora Literary Award for the last five years.

In a stimulating reflection exercise, “Egoísta” returns in 2006 with its second edition dedicated to the “City”. The Estoril Sol magazine proposes this time, other angles of analysis which explore the utopia of the city in a more plastic, more sensorial manner.

The whole world fits into a city and this is why March’s edition of “Egoísta”, dedicates a second volume to this theme. António Mega Ferreira, Clara Ferreira Alves, Filipa Melo, Sandra Nobre or João Gobern elaborate memories and fiction of the city, about iconographic elements from Adriana Molder, Amy Yoes, João Vilhena, José Luís Neto or Cláudio Garrudo.

Apart from the great literary quality, “Egoísta” also represents an unpublished photographic portfolio of the construction of the future Casino Lisboa which has its inauguration scheduled for the 19th of April.

With the usual generosity, writers, photographers, journalists and painters surprised us with their approaches in such a way that, instead of having a single editions, the theme of the City will unfold over two editions, where the second volume with be available in March of next year.

As was written by Mário Assis Ferreira, “The City of Egoísta doesn’t exist: she lives only in our imagination; she lives only in the answers to our questions, she depends exclusively on our aesthetic, literary and philosophical desires. That city is, of course, a utopia”.

The “Egoísta” magazine suggests publicity as the topic for its September edition

It was issued another edition of “Egoísta” magazine, which main subject concerns publicity. The good ideas are like the good conversations, that is why there is a kind of publicity that conquers the merit of being classic, and remains, as a fundamental part, in our collective memory, at the same time it constitutes a signal of the time we live.

With this “Egoísta” magazine edition, far from being a common commercial product, (it has conquered both the national and international market instead, along the six years of existence) it has dived in the creative universe of marks, agencies, of the classics that make publicity the 8th Art, which is celebrated along the magazines’ pages, on the newspapers, on placards, on the television magic screen, yet in the portfolios of the unsuspected artists.

A true invitation to reading, the 23rd edition of the Egoísta magazine approaches the 60 years elapsed on the end of the Second World War. With the habitual graphic rigor and of content, the Egoísta magazine subordinated to the title " 1945 - 2005 ", regarding the month of June, already available in selected kiosks.

There are different angles to analyze the period which history has traveled on after the end of the Second World War. What has moved in our life in 60 years? What Apocalypse did the Nazism represent? What wars did we suffer? How did we survive? What world we have lived in? Here some of the subjects that, along 160 pages, appears in an original way and with a quite provocative tone.

A quarterly publication of Estoril Sol, of thematic nature, the Egoísta magazine gathers a group of collaborators of having recognized quality. Of Paul Auster to Eduardo Lourenço, of Michelangelo Antonioni the António Mega Ferreira, of Mafalda Ivo Cruz Margarida Magalhães Ramalho, they are several examples of obligatory reading.

In order to enrich the content of this edition of the Egoísta magazine were invited the Baroque painter Daniel, the sculptor João Vilhena, the photographer Jorge Nogueira and João Francisco Vilhena.

The Egoísta magazine unmasks, still, some secrets in an option of conceptual design yet unpublished: they are six envelopes with contents that are worth a glance.

Remember that, in the last months, the Egoísta magazine was distinguished with prestigious awards, namely in United States and in Portugal. The SPD -Society of Publication Designers of New York rewarded the publication with two honorable mentions concerning to the editions, " Light " and " Children ".

The Prisma Awards distinguished the Egoísta magazine with the Prémio de Ouro - Best of Show for its graphical and editorial originality, also the Club of Creative of Portugal attributed to the magazine the Trophy of Silver in the category of editorial design.

The Egoísta magazine next edition is dedicated to the theme Publicity and it will be available at the middles of September.

Referenced cultural magazine, “Egoísta” was once again internationally recognised, this time in the 20th edition of the Epica Awards (Europe’s Premier Creative Awards). Owned by Estoril Sol, “Egoísta” was given the Bronze prize in the publications category.

The “Egoísta” editions which deserved the special attention of the jury were those dedicated to “The City”, “Advertising”, “Rebirth” and the “Portuguese Dream” which will be part of the permanent collection at the Musée de la Publicité (Palais du Louvre), together with the other awarded publications.

With this, “Egoísta” conquered another international award at a festival which included the presence of publications from 45 countries. The award ceremony will take place on the 26th of January in Stockholm.

We also recall that “Egoísta” was recently awards with another two awards in the category of “Communication Design”, in the “Sinos2006” during the 7th International Festival of Advertising in the Portuguese Language. During the ceremony which took place in Cascais, “Egoísta - Heart” conquered the silver award while “Egoísta - Rebirth” took the gold prize.

The “Egoísta” magazine received another four national awards at the 16th edition of “Papies”. The well known competition which is aimed at awarding the best graphic communication pieces of work, distinguished the last three thematic editions published by “Egoísta”, entitled “Portuguese Dream”, “Peace” and “Write”.

“Egoísta - Write” won the Grand Prize in the “Papies” Category of Graphic Design on Paper while the special edition dedicated to “Pease” was awarded in the Graphic Piece of the Year Category. The Grand Prize in the Magazine “Papies” Category was given to the “Portuguese Dream” theme and to “Egoísta – Peace” which was referred to twice at this event.
